There are many connections between Death and La Llorona. So, of course, when I was making my film, Death was invited.
In one of my scenes I included a life size wood sculpture of Death depicted, of course, as a skeletal figure. It was a sculpture that was made for my film by some dear friends in New Mexico who are santeros (traditional saint makers).
When Death arrived in NY and I was unloading her crate from the car to store in my apartment, a freak accident happened where I was hit on the forehead just hairs away from my right eye. I immediately grabbed my head and saw blood gushing everywhere. Then I became dizzy and passed out on the sidewalk. Fortunately, a friend was there to help me.
I almost lost my eye. Strangely, along with Death, the eyes also play an important role in my film.
But when you say "Death," You mean the Sculpture, right? If so, With what part did you get hit with. Sorry, I am really confused.

What's the truth about the la llorona? I mean the whole story. Does she really come out at night by the river. What's the deal on La Llorona?

La Llorona, from what I've heard throughout my life is that... one version is that this mother of two... drowned her children in the river. Later of guilt killed her self. The llorona spirit appears by river banks crying out for her children which she don't remember killing.
Mums use the story to get children to sleep before a certain time... If they don't get to bed at a certain hour she will come for them to replace her children! Y'all can figure out the rest.

From where I am from here in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the story of La Llorona is told to you at a young age. Either the story is told to you, to stay away from the rio grande river and ditch banks at night or the story may be true, passed on from generation to generation. If you were born here you would Know about it. I am excited for the movie to come out. Although I have never seen or came across an incouter with the spirit of La Llarona...I do believe the sroty about her is true. How she lost her kids and how she mistakes other kids as her own. When she takes a close look at the kids and realizes that they are not hers, she then drowns them in the river. The media then turns around these events and makes it seem as if they couldn't swim and it was some kind of an accident. The rio grande river is a very long river I do believe If you are at the rio grande you can feel her spirit. I also believe her spirit comes from mexico and in to New Mexico, and maybe even colorado.

How do you ward off La Llorona? Does pouring salt around your house keep her at bay? Or for that matter all witches?

I think the Llorona is real because many people haven seen her and why would they be making up a story.

My students and I studied La Llorona as part of our legends of Halloween and we saw the excerpt from the movie. Here is our question.... When is the movie coming out and where can we purchase it! My babies ask me everyday for this info and I just don't know. I saw the other films pertaining to the legend, but they were cheesy "b" movies. I put this in lower case because they were really tacky and missed the point altogether!

My teacher told me the story of la llorona. It started in Nuevo Laredo, the lady lived with her husband and 3 children on a street called The Devil's Corner cause they were poor. She would wash clothes 4 her neighbors and beg on the street 4 money or food. Sometimes she wouldn't eat 4 3 or a week so her children could eat. One day her husband went 2 work and came back drunk and had wasted the money on beer and said he was inlove with another woman. She became so angery and sad , she went 2 the cliff with her children and one by one she told them she loved them and that they were going 2 heaven with god where they can eat all the ice cream they wanted. So one by one she pushed them off the cliff and fell down below into the river and drowned. the next morning she woke up all happy and relieved, until she realized wat she had done. so she threw her self into the river too. until this day she walks along the river crying out "mis hijos" and drown any child she sees along the river.

I don't know about y'all, but the factor of the ice cream really fascinates me. It's interesting how modern elements have melded into the legend. I also think it's interesting that the legend has a little bit of Andrea Yates in it. I also like that La Llorona is a sympathetic figure and you can see why she hates the husband figure.
