I first heard of her as a child growing up in a remote town in New Mexico. It was a part of my life (owing to the religion and superstitions of the area) that, no matter where I turned, all I can remember feeling was fear. And La Llorona was a big part of my fear.
They always told stories about her...about how she drowned her baby, and how her ghost now roams the river crying. As kids, we would sit on the porch listening to her cries in the wind. I have heard her voice.
They told me she would take me away if I went to the river alone, or if I was bad. And I believed them because I knew she was real. And when I left New Mexico, she followed me.
I've spent many years getting to know La Llorona. (Facing my fears.)
What are you afraid of?
She scared me too. I'm from Austin. I think it was the idea that a mother could turn against her own kid. Your kid is the person a mother should love more than anything in the world. This still scares me. Maybe it's because it's the ultimate betrayal. La Llorona deserves to cry forever.

we belive that la llorona is a fake. you are really stupid if you belive in her. that was just a story that parents made up to scare their children, so they would behave. J/K we do belive in her!!! She is real & is coming after anyone who reads this!! Watch out! Look Out behind you.

The legend I heard about La Llorona was the one about how she drowned her children to marry a man whom she believed didn't marry her because of them. I think it's a very sad story, and maybe we need to get an exorcist to put her spirit to rest. She did the wrong thing, but I don't believe she's a malicious spirit.

This is my first time hearing the stories of La Llorona. The only story that I have ever heard when I was growing up was about El Cucuy. My grandmother and my boyfriend Alejandro would always mention the name La Llorona but would never tell me the story. Being raised in a Mexican-American background, and bein Chicana I will have to believe the stories they tell. It's just part of my culture.

Y'all are ridiculous...She doesn't exist and your tales are lies. It was just a story made up for entertainment.

I believe in la llorona because once I was in long island beach and saw a shadow of a women carrying a baby in her arms in the water . So I yelled but suddenly when I was taking care of a baby the next day I heard la llorona screaming " mis bebes!!"
I freaked out

I was afraid of what she might do to me if she were to get me =0
It's really scary knowing that a woman can be so heartless to kill her own children, specially now that I'm a mom.

how do u see the llorona my frinds tell me in the bath tub with the water in there and cry for her
Posted by: kieneshia | May 08, 2007 at 11:52 AM
How interesting. I've not heard that before. Usually, La Llorona does not go inside the house. I'm hearing a lot of comparissons to the Bloody Mary game there. La Llorona is not something that can be conjured up, otherwise there would be a lot more people reporthing the same thing. Thank you for saying that, though.

thank u for your answer.have u ever seen llorona?i would really like to know send me a picture of how she looks now.how do u see her.
Posted by: kieneshia | May 09, 2007 at 11:54 AM
Kieneshia,
I'm a gringo in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. I've never seen or heard La Llorona. I'm a student of the story of her; not a ghost hunter. In my 17 years since I heard of her, I've never seen a picture of her. I've seen incredible artwork and some low-budget films, but no "official" pictures of her. If you want some good pictures of what she might look like, I would try lallorona.com, where there are some good interpretations of what she might look like.
And you can't make her appear. But if you want to see her, follow the same step for seeing any ghost; don't go looking for her. She'll be there when you least expect it.

don't ever send me anything like this again do u know about the river theory do u beleiven this
Posted by: kieneshia | May 10, 2007 at 02:05 PM
I am not sure of what you are referring to as the river theory. I believe that the closer you get to the Rio Grande, the closer you get to La Llorona. So I can't say I believe in the river theory, but I will say that I believe in La Llorona. For too long, there have been just too many stories of her not to be real. With most sightings, I'm going to approach it from the perspective of a skeptic. That is just my nature. But at the end of the day, I'm not out to prove she exists. I just like hearing people tell stories about her.
